News from the Firth Keenan Family--

*John has been busy with his new calling as Young Men's president. He was released 

this summer as the Stake Executive Secretary after only 7 years.

*Johnny needs 1 more merit badge to earn his Life ranking in scouts. 
*Isaac just received his Tenderfoot and he is close to his 1st and  2nd Class rankings. 

*Both boys are playing on a Shelley Jr High club soccer team. 
*Kandace is enjoying the short drives to Shelley for practices vs. the drives to Idaho Falls.

*Sabina was baptized this summer and is enjoying reading and activity days. 
*Mallory broke her arm at lunch recess on the fourth day of school and will get
her cast off soon. 
*Penny is enjoying being home with mom and getting lots of one on one time.

News from the Rigby Webster Family:  Justin is working as the 

special education director for Clark County (Dubois) school district. 

It is about a 50 minute drive. He carpools with people from Rigby 

and Rexburg. An interesting note is that the science teacher he 

works with is his mother’s cousin!!! Heidi was able to secure a 

leave of absence for the year. She just got hired as an online 

teacher for k12 (10hrs/week). Ivie is playing the piano and 

participating on a jump rope team in Idaho Falls. Morgan keeps 

everyoneon their toes. He locked himself in a bedroom the other 

morning.

News from the Logan (as in Logan, UT) Cook Family:  Zac is working towards his 
masters and is just finishing up a project and do a presentation on it. He has been 
working really hard and we are excited to see the light at the end of the tunnel. He 
is still working for the university and they are really good to him there. He also just participated in the half marathon that was held in Pocatello. He ran the whole thing 
and finished in a little over 2 hours. We are so proud of him and how much he trained 
to be ready. We have also been doing a lot of house projects. Zac keeps very busy!

Owen, who is 3 and a half, just started a new intensive program (he has autism) and
 he goes to the program from 8-12. They work on sitting still, potty training, behavior problems, and communication. He loves it! We get a lot of positive feedback about his progress. And although we are still waiting for words from him, but he is really smart 
and doing well. He also gets bussed to preschool after lunch and is there until about 3.
 He gets the social aspect and does really well there too. He giggles a lot and has a 
great time.

William, who is 21 months, just started the early intervention program that Owen 
was in at that age. He is struggling with some of his social skills and a few other 
speech delays. However, we just can't get enough of him. He is so fun! He loves to 
climb and jump and be active. He loves to be held and give hugs and kisses. He is 
just a sweet boy with a lot of love. We are in the process of getting him tested for
 autism as well. We will know by Thanksgiving time. (hopefully, sooner). In the 
meantime, we are going to the park as much as we can before it's winter.

I, Jenny, am keeping busy as you might guess. I am a Beehive Advisor in our ward
 and I love every minute of it. The girls are great and are just a real blessing to me. 
I also like to play volleyball once a week and bookclub once a month. I love to get 
out with my family and go walking or swimming or anything like that. We got a 
four-wheeler this summer and it's a really great date for Zac and I, and a special
 treat for Owen and William. We are all doing well and getting into a routine. Hope 
all is well with everyone else as well!

Craig and Jaylyne:

We had a wonderful week in Rocky Mountain National Park the first full week of
 August.  Kirsten and Hugo arrived first, after spending a few days in Chicago and
 then the night in Denver.  We arrived shortly after that (with Sarah, but not Richard)
 and Andrea and Travis' family followed. Julie and Ben and family arrived the next day. 
 Since we had stopped in Vernal for Saturday and Sunday to see Daniel, Crystal, Eric 
and their new little one, Marc Allen, we were able to see all our grandchildren/ children
 that week except Jordan and Janneece and their two little ones.  
Rocky Mountain National Park is spectacular.  We had deer walk through or campsite.  
One evening we were treated to the sight of a herd of elk grazing in the meadow 
across the road.  We saw Mountain Bluebirds, hummingbirds, pesky chickadees who
 waited to steal food scraps, brazen chipmunks with the same intent....  One morning, 
most of us went on a short hike and watched the sun rise on a cloudless morning. 
 En route, we saw two coyote, apparently unsuccessful from a night of hunting.  On 
another hike, room size boulders loomed at the side of the path at times.  The path 
followed the course of the river and our destination was a pool at the foot of a low
 'falls.'  
Travis and Hugo had been preparing physically for a day long hike up Long's Peak.  
They left early afternoon one day, slept in a stone, three-walled, shoulder-high
 enclosure and began the final trek early in the morning in order to be off the 
summit before noon.  They made it!  
The last night, we had a 'burning of the bag' ceremony, celebrating the end of some 
13 years of doing papers.  It was wonderful to be with our family.  Our grandchildren
 treated us to a couple of skits and insisted that the adults do one to return the favor.  
So many wonderful memories from one short week!
Returning home, we again detoured through Vernal and spent the night, taking 
advantage of all baby-holding time.  LONG drive, but wonderful trip.
Richard is still working at Taco Bell and now plans to start school in January now that
 he has worked out a few bugs.  School has started, and new challenges arise from 
that.  But we are all doing well.

News from Albuquerque Thomas Family:  We enjoyed a wonderful vacation in Rocky Mountain 
National Park. While there we enjoyed some hiking, the sunrise, playing games, wading in the 
stream, and watching the kids put on a play for us at the amphitheater (Goldibear and the 3 
HomoSapiens--Instead of broken chairs and the like there were broken iPods etc.) They 
insisted the parents put on a show too, so we made up some words to a song from the 
Sound of Music.  Other highlights:  My dad's reading of a Eulogy for the Newspaper Bag 
which has been in our family for years.  (Kirsten and I had newspaper routes when we 
were younger and then he and mom have had routes for a long time too.)  This was followed 
by a burning of said bag. Travis and Hugo hiked Long's Peak (the highest mountain in Colorado).   
When we arrived home, we found someone had broken into our house.  The kids started school 
two days after we got back. The washing machine flooded the laundry room when the hose was
 inadvertently disconnected from the drain last week.  The brakes on the van needed work.
On a more positive note, Travis and I got a new mattress (our first one ever)!  We (or 
Travis rather) finished taping and just have the ceiling to texture.  So we need to paint the 
basement and may as well do the whole house except for the living room and dining room as 
whatever paint they used is impossible to wash. I wonder if Aunt Marilyn would like to come 
down and choose a paint color for me?  

Randy and Joanne:

We are doing well and enjoying life in Michigan. The fall is so colorful, 

although it has been a little cool.
Randy has been working quite a bit from home and we have enjoyed being  

together more. He is headed to Europe next
week. Joanne is taking a  quilting class
and a photography class as well as attending Institute each week.
We have decided to train for a triathalon and will be completing one or more next
summer. This is going to be a real challenge (and it will not be pretty) but
the goal is simply to cross the finish line. (Laura, Matt and Lindsay are going
to train and compete as well.)
Karyna is playing volleyball for her school and Kaylee is trying her
hand (foot) at soccer. We enjoy going to the games and cheering them on. Seth
is working on his lake house and has even corralled Randy into helping with the
remodeling from time to time.
Matt is still in the application process for medical school. He is
working on his secondary applications. Lindsay and Matt love being
parents to Benson.
Tiana is doing a pre-school co-op (with other moms and tots from the ward) with
James and he loves learning and being with friends during the week. Julia is a
sweetie and such a good natured baby. Nate is looking for a job in Wildlife
Management.

Ken and Karleen:

·   ·         We’re making our semi-annual trip to the lower 48 during the month of October! We plan to make a short trip to Idaho at some point and hope to visit with the whole blooming gang!!! J

• ·         We met some good friends of Les and Janey this summer—they were serving at the Methodist Church Youth Hostel for six weeks.  Marvin came out and helped Ken and Uncle Dick work on the roof!  Barbara is a quilter—YEAH!
• ·         John and Kandace stopped in Ketchikan while on an Alaskan cruise!  It was so fun to visit—and to show off our beautiful, albeit wet, island!!
• ·         James and Courtney are in the swing of things back in school!

Rachelle is in Fiddler on the Roof--she's playing Hodel, the middle daughter--Nov. 9-10, 12!

Jay and Lorinda:

Everyone seems to be making adjustments...

·         Jay's company completed a new building and I believe they begin there tomorrow.
It's large and spacious and very high-tech.

·         Lorinda began her job-search and after visiting with a specialist at the state employment
office, finds herself signed up for evening finance and computer classes (Excel & Quick Books)
 until the middle of November. She is VERY excited!

·         Shaun is working extra long hours so that next term he can work fewer hours while spending
 half his day student teaching. He'll student teach for a longer time period, but only part of the day.
Lanette is appreciating their together time more. 

·         David was offered an engineering job with the State of Utah, Water Resources Division. Last
 I heard, he was computing/charting information about the depths and distances of water stuff in the Moab area. (Hmmmm  - sounds fun!)  He commutes to SLC from Provo daily for now.

·         Rachel and Brian are about the same. Rachel received a wage increase and was given
preference for her hours at the school and that made her very happy.

·         Karina is pursuing her degree in education. I suspect she misses the time she used to hang
out with David. She stays busy with her calling as the Activity person in her ward and babysitting
Iris for Lanette.

·         Jacob is in Logan and trying so hard to adjust to college life without a car. I suspect he
 misses the weekly hard labor jobs. So Zac, if you have dirty work, call Jacob.   541-295-1552

·         Jeremy & Sam - They are so lonely without a BIG BRO to pester them and push them
around. We did have a lovely trip. I loved being in the sacred places of church history -- Liberty
Jail, Adam-Ondi-Ahman, Nauvoo  (to name just a few) and to be there with my children...
Wonderful! These places have been preserved in miraculous ways and I'm so grateful that we
were able to visit and learn about the saints that gave their all for the gospel.

CONGRATULATIONS!

Welcome to Julia Virginia Cook

Born May 20^th to Tiana and Nathan Cook!

NEWSFLASH: Joanne actually alerted me about this fire!

POCATELLO -- Fire officials say 66 homes and 29 outbuildings in southwest Pocatello have burned and more are threatened in a fast-moving wildfire.
 
More than 1,000 people have been evacuated from some Pocatello neighborhoods and the community of Mink Creek. The Charlotte fire started Thursday afternoon, spreading quickly through bone-dry grass and brush.
 
The fire is burning on just over 1,000 acres -- that's a little more than 1 1/2 square miles -- and is estimated to be about 30 percent contained. So far, no injuries have been reported. 
 
Officials have not yet released details about what may have sparked the flames but say it is believed to be human-caused.

Jay and Lorinda

Recently, a former exchange student - Jaycia - came for a one week visit and we currently have a nice young man from Germany staying with us. The family is well and we're looking forward to the coming months. In those months we will be:
expecting a mission call for David and all the exciting things that entails, attending High School Graduation for Jacob, Lorinda Loo turns 50!, and our family will be going to Nauvoo. 

Lyndon and Debbie

We don't have much to share.  I am gearing up for girl's camp the fourth week of June and Lyndon will be up at camp with us all week too!  Which is nice.

  
Dallen just finished another year at the U.  He is working at a job he loves as a group leader over kids elementary age and he loves it.  He will be doing that this summer 
also.  He has one more year at the U. and then wants to apply with a program to go to Japan.  He is doing well.  As are we. 

Erin's daughter, Delphia graduated from her pre-school and will start kindergarten this fall.  

Ashley's daughter, Ruby is graduating from kindergarten this week and will start 1st grade in the fall.  These kids sure grow up fast, which means we are getting older of course.  Jed, Ashley's hubby,  is in school also and has another 3 years to go, but he is enjoying it and hopefully there will be good jobs out there for him when he is done.

Todd's wife Megan is still in nursing  school and has two semesters left and then she will be done.  I have been watching the kids for them once a week.  It has been fun and I enjoy having them. 

We are looking forward to a nice summer and hopefully some fun adventures along the way.  As a family, we hiked Timpanogos on Memorial Day.  We went through the cave and had a fun day together.  Lyndon made homemade ice cream and it was delicious!  We have fun times together as a family.  Well, not much more to tell.  Life is good and we are immensely blessed. 

Ken and Karleen

We’re busy—doing what I’m not so sure!  We get motivated to work in the yard and garden—and then it rains! When we were at Mom’s/Danna’s last fall, Danna and Rachelle were making pillowcases for the Primary Children’s Hospital. So I got the bright idea to make each Primary child a pillowcase with his/her name and the CTR shield on that opening end for birthdays—they’re cute, but obviously I didn’t “count the cost” in time before making the commitment—it takes about two hours for each one!  Ken is doing well—he and Aaron hit all the garage sales every Saturday—nice time to get laundry and general cleaning done! Logging has slowed for the summer (but we just filled our heating oil tank—300 gallons for $1256!--so I'm anxiously awaiting the fall logging to begin!

Amber is in Provo and working for a home security hotline—she went to a Karate Bootcamp in California a couple of weeks ago and had a great time.

Aaron has finished the welding course here—and is working a temp job with the Coast Guard here.

Courtney is taking two classes now to lessen the load in the fall—when she’ll return to finish that degree. Her Dad told her we’d be happy to take care of Jesse, just pack his bags, and we’ll fly down and pick him up! Can’t imagine why she’s not interested! James is doing some moonlighting with a computer-based accounting business—good way to get some real-hands on experience.

We are all doing well.

Randy is still traveling all the time and enjoys his work. Joanne has been called to be the ward camp director and will be getting busier as the time draws closer. She has been gardening and working on quilting and family history when she finds the time.

Nathan, Tiana and James welcomed new family member, Julia Virginia,on May 20. Randy and Joanne traveled to meet her the first week-end in June. 

Laura has received her certification and is officially a Licensed Professional Counselor.

Matt is finishing up his last class and will be graduating from BYU in August. He has taken the MCATs--they'll start med school in 2013! They are anxiously awaiting the arrival of their baby boy mid-July.

Seth is building a deck on his lake house and remodeling the basement. Carrie has purchased a laser cutter and is trying her hand at entrepreneurship. She is making laser cut jewelry, cupcake wrappers and toppers.

Adam is participating in Special Olympics again this year where he is perfecting the freestyle stroke.

We are planning to have a Randy Cook Family Reunion this July in Utah--Julia will be blessed at that time.

No news is good news?!  School is out and we are trying to get the yard in shape and are contemplating doing some painting.  Not too exciting.  After our family reunion in Rocky Mountain National Park, we may have more to say.  Hugo presented his research proposal for his doctorate and the committee accepted it! 

Hmmm.  This week has been more of the same:  weeding (I have three rows of potatoes and the very back of the garden left to do and then I can start over), sewing (I remade a white linen jacket I bought from DI), cleaning (I scrubbed the top of the kitchen cabinets:  a very greasy, nasty job, even with the fan over the stove!).  I am progressing on lesson plans and have done some reading.

So what was out of the ordinary?  Monday, Craig and I went to Grandma Reynolds and scraped paint so the Paint Fest people could paint her house.  Actually, there were about six Paint Fest people there scraping with us.  Noreen and Darrell came, too.  On Thursday, I did go to lunch with some of the staff from Ellis.  They meet once a month during the summer.  I usually make it to just one of the three.  I also went grocery shopping.  It has been a while since I did that.  And, on Thursday, after returning home from the Ellis staff lunch/Walmart trip, I discovered the post card in our mailbox notifying me that my contract was ready to sign at the District Offices, so I drove over and signed it.  Even though I had already signed a letter of intent, I always feel more secure once the contract is signed.

Today I spoke in the 3^rd ward Sacrament Meeting with Chuck Mennear from the Stake High Council.  I had revised my talk at least three times!  As I kept pondering Elder Packer’s talk, new thoughts came to mind which seemed more important than others I had included earlier, so I would have to go back and cut things out.  In the end, I really emphasized his statement that the ultimate goal of the Church is to have husbands, wives and their children HAPPY AT HOME, PROTECTED BY THE PRINCIPLES AND ORDINANCES OF THE GOSPEL, AND SEALED BY ETERNAL PRIESTHOOD COVENANTS.  I have really pondered the idea of being protected by the principles of the gospel.  As we strive to live those principles, we truly are protected from the evils of the world, from the negativity, the greed, the selfishness prevalent in our society today!

Elizabeth got the Student of the Year Award at James Monroe Middle School.  Catherine ran 120+ miles this past school year in Sierra Vista's runner's club. Katelyn was on the Star Team last year at school.  Rebecca got an award for Fabulous Singing.  Emma knows how to skip and is thrilled to be starting kindergarten next year.  Edie likes to show us her half skip or any other skill that she is excited to learn.  August is sitting up fairly well and is learning to roll over. He is a smiley baby.  I have elected to give up exercise in favor of nap time.  Travis is getting ready for a high adventure trip with the scouts.

Keith Cook was married on May 20 in Las Vegas, Nevada.  We now have two more grandchildren, Kaden and Ethan.  He married Amber Kratkze.

Allen Cook graduated from Weber State with a degree in computer security and has a new job at Utah State University in Logan, Utah.

Phillip Cook graduated from University of Utah with a degree in electrical engineering and is working for Rocky Mountain Power in Salt Lake City.

Mark Cook is enjoying his job as a Security job at NRF, the Naval Reactor Facility, at the INEEL.

Robert and Tiffany are excited about the arrival of Lincoln Cook who will be born in August.

With the 1940 census underway I found Junior A Cook in Minnidoka County, outside the city limits of Rupert.  Allen Bradford was working as a Janitor.  Also while digging through Grandma's file cabinet in Tremonton I found a copy of Junior Allen Cook's birth certificate, one of them appeared to be an original.  They were from Nevada and his name on the cetificate was Allen Cook Junior. I understand that his Idaho birth certificate says Junior Allen Cook.  The 1930 census has him listed as Emerson Cook.  Who is this Guy. Ha,ha. (The thought is that he said to the census taker:  “I’m her son”—translated Emerson).

Family News

Talked with Mom recently--she seems to be doing well--waiting for Ken to return to put up railings and stairs! (Tee hee hee)

Reynolds – Jaylyne and Craig spent Spring Break visiting with Elise and Kirsten, Hugo & Family. They had dinner with Randy and Joanne, as well. It seems all are well on the Northeastern Front! This is August at his blessing.

Randy and Joanne are enjoying their home, spending time with children and grandchildren--and visitors when they come!

Kiffers – Karleen flew to California with a woman in our Ward who was pregnant, but needed to go to a doctor’s appointment in LA. (A trip to the LA Temple made the travel worth it!) Two weeks ago, Ken’s mother-in-law was medivact to Bellingham due to a bloodclot and possible heart attack. Karleen flew with her and returned home via the ferry (36 hours trip--very calm waters!). Courtney heads back to school this month under some duress (it's so difficult leaving the Sweet Babboo behind!)—BYU made her an offer that was difficult to refuse—allowing her to finish her degree in two semesters…so, she’s looking for childcare for the fall and next spring (during student teaching). James and Amber are picking up extra duties this semester to make the Fall Semester less hectic! Her Dad told her he’d be happy to watch Jesse—just pack him up and we’d go get him! Sure thing!! James is enjoying his work with an accounting firm—it’s part-time, but he likes the job—and getting his feet wet in his chosen career!

Amber is working as a phone rep for a safety alarm system. She answers questions for customers—funny, she really doesn’t have an accent—and lives in the United States—didn’t think they hired anyone like that!

Aaron finishes the welding program in three weeks! YEAH! He’s decided to fish for a couple of months with his teacher who bought a new boat to salmon fish—going after dogs (you don’t have to clean them—just pull them in and pitch them in the ice)! I’ve reminded him he can only put off the big job hunt for so long!

Koyles – Don and Danna are doing well! Rachelle remains actively involved in thespians at school—and loves it--and according to Facebook she's made Madrigals!!!! Jared finishes classwork in May and then begins Pharmacy rotations!

Ed – Everything is going well. He’s taken the genealogical information from Les and from Jaylyne—and combined all the single pages and documents and put them in PDF files by individuals. Examples:

Anyway, he has the information on his computer (about 800 mb) and would be happy to share if anyone wants to visit and bring a flashdrive to download the info--should take about ten minutes!

Corwin and Marilyn are doing well--living norther than most of the Cook siblings, but certainly willing to travel to see visitors! Not a lot is happening right now--but that's good! Had to laugh at Derek's boss's boss's comment when they drove into the parking lot one day. The Boston Boss having seen the same old car in the parking lot every morning and night during his visit assumed it was an abandoned old junker and suggested that it be towed away. The Ogden Boss told him the car belonged to Derek (who obviously spends enough hours at the office to have his notorious vehicle noticed!).

Jones – Jacob completed his Eagle Scout Project--building a nature trail at a local Girl Scouts Camp. He not only built the trail, but added benches and wooden markers along the trail, as well. He's heading to Utah State in the fall—thinking about a degree in mechanical engineering.

Shaun and Lanette have been approved to adopt again--Iris just turned one!

Jeremy enjoys hiking and photography (combined). Sam’s finishing 7th grade! David will graduate with a Masters in Engineering in August. Jay is anxiously engaged with indexing--helping to get that 1940 Census done! Lorinda is visiting in Idaho—Karina is finishing the semester and will return home for a few weeks before returning to work and school in Provo. The family is planning a summer trip to Nauvoo!
