The Day-After-Thanksgiving Luncheon was a great success!  Good visiting and great food certainly helped!  By my count 86 COOKS were in attendance!  Any photos would be appreciated—and added to this post.

will be married in the Bountiful Utah Temple.

February 10^th – Rachelle Koyle enters the MTC.  She has been called to serve in the Sacramento California Mission. 

FAMILY NEWS:

Grandma Cookie – had hip replacement surgery on November 16^th (I might add that Courtney was courteous to have her baby the same day—in the same hospital!).  It is doing much better—and you can’t hear the bone on bone scraping sound every time she moves her leg!  YEAH!  Jaylyne was able to spend some time with her when Danna and Don went to Boise for a few days for pre-wedding festivities.

       January 8^th will be her 87^th birthday!!

Ed – NEWS Tasia and Jacob returned to Idaho for the Christmas holidays and plan to move back at the end of the school year in May.

Randy and Joanne - will be spending February and March in Perth, while Randy does some work there.  We will find a furnished apartment and live like when we were students in North Carolina.  I'll be home most nights, which will be great.  We hope to see some kangaroos, koalas, etc--in their natural habitat.  We are told the temperatures will be up to 104 degrees.  However, there is often a breeze from the Indian Ocean.

In case the whole crew doesn't know already, Laura has been given a full time job as a seminary teacher at Bountiful High School.  Needless to say, she is thrilled.

Lorinda and Jay – are anticipating the arrival of a new grandson.  Lorinda will be in Utah January 5^th – 10^th (with plans to be at Grandma’s for her birthday).

Karleen and Ken - Our family is doing great! James is still an auditor for the state of Utah and is working on his CIA certification. He's excited to do some fun reading from Christmas presents! Courtney should soon have her re-licensure for elementary education. She loves being a stay at home mom. Jesse loves legos and reading and taking care of his new baby brother, Camden. Brycen is talking more and loves anything with wheels! We enjoy receiving visits from parents and notice that they increase as the number of grandchildren does ;-)

Amber finally made it up to Anaheim for a visit Robert and Tiffany and boys over the holidays!  Les and Janey were there, as well.

Jaylyne and Craig -  had planned on going to Dallas to be with Ben's family for Christmas, stopping in Albuquerque going to and from so we could spend some time with Andrea's family, too.  However, Sarah had been sick for nearly two weeks and a trip to the emergency room revealed she had a low neutraphil count, which meant her immune system was really struggling.  So, she was in the hospital for a day or two, home for a day and a half, then back in the hospital.  During one of her home days, she had a bone marrow biopsy to rule out the possibility of leukemia.  The results came back negative and we are grateful for that.  She seems to be on the mend now; her blood count is in the low normal range.  They only find a cause for this kind of thing in one in five cases, so we may never know, but her oncologist (for the thyroid cancer) thinks she probably had viral meningitis and it really knocked her for a loop.  Thanks to understanding children, we were able to spend time here instead of Dallas and Albuquerque.

Kirsten and Hugo remain very busy taking children to violin or cello lessons and filling church callings.  Kirsten has been taking a chemistry class each semester for the last three semesters.  Hugo is preparing to take a group of students to Brazil next semester for a Study Abroad Experience.  Hannah and Leila are beautiful young women who work hard in school and in their music.  Hugo Von is 11 and is finding some pleasure in singing as well as in playing the violin.  Joshua and Natalie are both learning to play the cello.  Kirsten doesn't play a string instrument, but she has learned a lot so she can direct their practicing as needed.  Theo delights the entire family and is proving to be quite mischievous now that he can walk all over (think:  writing on walls and emptying out spices....).

Ellie now has official permission to accept dates because she gave her dad a Nerf Dart Gun for Christmas.  She was not allowed to date until he had a gun.  She sings in the choir and plays the flute in her spare (?) time.  With her parents's support, she came up with an ingenious idea for the Physics Class Egg Drop Challenge.  Her packaged egg survived three drops from  a second story window.  She was delighted with the prize of a breakfast burrito.  Catherine and Katelyn along with Ellie are also beautiful young women.  Rebecca, Emmaleigh and Edie also do creative things.  August's energy seems to know no bounds until he gets hurt.  Nathan is growing, too.  Andrea and Travis keep busy with their family and church callings.  Their ward and stake boundaries were recently adjusted.  Albuquerque recently went through a lot of church reorganization.  Our stake took five of the existing wards and made 7.  Then two weeks later, they created a new stake in the area.  We stayed in the same Ward (the new boundary is one street away) and Stake.  We made it through the Christmas rush of  school music concerts.  Nathan and August took turns getting sick so Andrea was pinned to the house for two weeks.  She was really sweating getting all of the Christmas shopping done. We had a great Christmas with Elise here visiting.  We enjoyed playing games, watching movies, sledding, going to the zoo, fun food and just being together.  The kids bought Andrea a bull horn.  She has been using it daily to call the family together for meals or other important "team meetings" (that is "let's get the chores done" pep talks).  We found an amazing egg nog recipe that cooks the eggs (no risk of salmonella) that we adapted to be alcohol free.  Any fellow egg nog lovers can email me for the recipe.   andreathom96@gmail

Elise spent Christmas in Albuquerque.  She continues to work at the Church History Library.

Ben began working for a new company in Denton, Texas, doing AutoCad work for them.  He is enjoying it and they seem to be pleased with his work.  Julie is still teaching kindergarten at a private Montessori school nearer their home.  Sierra is in her class and does well academically.  James is gradually using more and more words.  Since Ben has to have the car to drive to Denton, a friend takes Julie to work and picks up James and Julie each day, watching James until Julie's day ends as well.  They are truly grateful for their friends and ward family.

Daniel and Crystal are still in Vernal.  Eric is in a bilingual first grade classroom.  Marc is good at being cute and chattering.  Zachery has had lots of tummy problems and was finally diagnosed with an infant colitis which a baby typically grows out of by his first birthday.  Crystal has been marvelously willing to try cutting out different foods to find the culprit.

Jordan and Janneece home school Hannah and Chester.  Jordan became Jennifer's best friend when Russell was born in November.  Although Janneece has been plagued with headaches since Russell was born, they are certain a procedure done yesterday will be the end of those.  Jordan has applied for a job as a lab technician with the State Police and is still waiting to hear back.  It takes time for the background check, etc.  So, prayers are appreciated.  P.S. And the "blood patch" to alleviate Janneece's headaches did the trick.  

Richard and Courtney are still working toward getting back into school. 

Sarah continues to look for work.  When this illness first hit, she had one day of respite and she signed 'solo' for an Institute choir number (she signed in American Sign Language while the choir sang the carol).  

We feel blessed!

Danna and Don – have a corner on the news this quarter; however, it is located at the top!  The family has had and will have many opportunities to be together this quarter!

Les and Janey - traveled to Arizona for Neal’s daughters’ (Morgan and Malynn) baptisms, then to California to see Robert and Tiffany, then up the coast to visit other family members and Justin.  It was colder than usual everywhere they went and was 15 below when they got back to Blackfoot on the 31^st.  Robert and Tiffany started a fire in their fireplace in Anaheim because it was so cold.
